The School Curriculum includes the six Learning Areas prescribed by the NSW Education Standards Authority:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science and Technology
  • Human Society and Its Environment (History and Geography)
  • Creative Arts
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Biblical Studies is a compulsory subject for students from Pre – Kinder to Year 6, it helps students gain the knowledge and understanding necessary to develop a Christian worldview. Teaching and Learning programs are developed using the NSW Education Standards syllabuses which clearly prescribe the outcomes and content that students should learn during their school life.

Our programs are Christ-centred, student focused, evidence-based and collaboratively designed. Our teachers adopt explicit teaching with integrated inquiry learning. Through an iterative reflective process, teachers adapt Teaching and Learning to the needs of the class.

Pre-Kinder programs incorporate aspects of the Learning Areas to ensure a smooth transition to Kindergarten through play-based learning experiences.

Sport

We encourage all students to explore their sporting interests and strive for personal development through movement. Broughton is committed to providing avenues for every student to engage in sports and develop both confidence and abilities.

We prioritise inclusivity and skill development, with tailored sport groups accommodating varying abilities. Through these activities, we aim to instil a love for physical activity and teamwork, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Students in Years 3 to 6 can represent the College in various sporting teams through the IPSSO (Independent Primary Schools Sporting Organisation) competition and CASA (The Co-Educational Anglican Schools Association) Gala Days.

Music

Our music program is taught by specialist Music teachers and includes every student in the Junior School. An instrumental program commences in Year 3 (Strings and Band) where every student learns to play their own instrument in small group tutorials and ensemble lessons. Our Junior School music ensembles bring together students outside of the classroom setting to further develop their musical interest and skills while participating in school and community performances.

Creative and Performing Arts

At Broughton, we strive to expand students’ learning experiences through an artistic perspective, complementing and extending the concepts taught in their core classes.

Our Creative and Performing Arts programs are designed to enhance the skills and creativity of every child, fostering a lifelong positive relationship with the arts. Additionally, we focus on building confidence, imagination, and communication skills within our program.

Languages

Spanish

Students in the Junior School have the opportunity to learn Spanish from Year 3 to Year 6. Research indicates that the best way to learn languages is from an early age, therefore we start teaching our students a foreign language early on.

Why Spanish? Spanish is spoken by 500 million native speakers in 21 countries and is one of the official languages of the United Nations and the European Union. It is predicted that Spanish will be the second most spoken language in the world by 2050!

En esta escuela aprendemos Español. – In this school we learn Spanish.
